Seattle Summertime Activities

Seattle offers a plethora of fun activities for locals and tourists to take advantage of during the summertime. So many in fact, it can feel impossible to pick! That’s why we’ve compiled a list of must-dos during your ‘Summer in Seattle’ experience!

Get out on Lake Union

There are two amazing ways to bask in the sun on Lake Union if you don’t have a boat (or if you’re not #onaduck): try a stand-up paddle board or a kayak! Both pieces of equipment can be rented at various spots around the lake, but a great option is the Northwest Outdoor Center located on Westlake Avenue (you’ll pass by it on our tour route!). The NWOC is a great place to get started and they even teach classes for those who want a little extra help. Nothing can beat that relaxing feeling out on the water while soaking in the gorgeous views of Seattle surrounding you!

Explore the Seattle Waterfront

Looking for the perfect place to spend a summer afternoon? Head down to the Waterfront for endless entertainment!

Hop on a ferry

Visit the Seattle Ferry Terminal and take a picturesque ride to Bremerton or Bainbridge Island! You can walk, bike, or drive your car onto the ferry and travel across the water—catching all the beautiful sights in the meantime!

Cool down at Wild Waves

If you’re looking for an action-packed playground, Wild Waves Theme & Water Park is the spot for you! Whether you’re a thrill-seeker ready to ride Washington’s largest wooden roller coaster, the Timber Hawk, or if you’d rather float along in the Lazy River—there’s something for everyone! Wild Waves is a day-trip truly worth the hour drive South of Seattle.

Watch the Salmon Run

Head over to the Ballard Locks to watch the salmon migrate up the fish ladder through October (with best viewing in September). You can also find entertainment in watching the water levels rise and fall as boats enter and exit the Puget sound from Lake Washington and Lake Union. The Locks have been around for 100 years (this year exactly!), so go get a taste of iconic Seattle history!

Explore the Pike Place Expansion

After 40 years of planning, the historic MarketFront expansion is complete! There are new, spectacular spots to look out over the Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains—as well as more space for vendors, farmers, and artists to sell their goods. Pike Place is bigger and better than ever while still holding onto its historic charm!

Build a Bonfire

There’s nothing quite like a bonfire on a warm summer evening. Golden Gardens and Alki Beach are two beautiful spots to watch the sun go down around a bonfire with friends and family. Don’t forget the s’mores!

Get Wild at the Zoo

Adventure awaits! Take a trip to the Woodland Park Zoo and visit all your favorite animals in one stop! Be sure to say hi to Seattle’s tallest baby: Lulu, the giraffe, born about a month ago.

Dance the night away at Bumbershoot

Kick off September in the best way Seattle has to offer: at Bumbershoot! Mark your calendars for Labor Day Weekend and get ready for a whirlwind of fun, music, food and more. With headliners such a Flume, Lorde, and Odesza—you’re bound to have a blast!

See it all on a Duck Tour

What kind of tips would we be giving you if we didn’t encourage you to ride Seattle’s #1 Land and Water tour this summer? Catch all the sights of the city as they shimmer under the sunshine—and get a good laugh along the way! Book your seats today!
