Nordstrom (Seattle Fun Fact #67)

Did you know John W. Nordstrom joined the Klondike Gold Rush in 1897 and within two years earned $13,000 (almost $400,000 today!). Upon returning to Seattle in 1901, he opened up a shoe store, which (no surprise here!) eventually became the retail legend it is today! The Nordstrom Flagship store in Downtown Seattle still displays vintage shoes and memorabilia that have been donated from longtime customers and employees – check out the display on the 4th floor! Surprisingly, John Nordstrom was one of only a handful of people to make money in the gold rush and stay wealthy their entire lives.
